What. The. Frack. UPDATE

By March 14, 2011No Comments

So it seems like I might have tapped into a big local concern when I posted about fracking a few weeks ago (no pun intended).

Right after I wrote my original ‘What. The. Frack.’ post, there was a totally unrelated maelstrom on my local Brooklyn news group touched off by an link that a neighbor posted about a petition from the Working Families Party here in NY.

The petition was a simple, one-line statement:
“Governor Cuomo needs to protect New York’s water RIGHT NOW by banning all hydraulic fracture gas drilling in the state.”
(Note: the petition and the link still are live, so you can still add your name if you so choose.)

Right around this same time, there was a fracking article on the NY Times, with a lot of depth and information on the process, regulation, and laws around the process.

So, for anyone that doesn’t know about fracking or wants to learn more, an awesome Brooklyn neighborhood event is being hosted tonight. Here are the details, should you (or a friend) be interested…

GASLAND! This Monday. Time to Get Cracking and BAN FRACKING! Bring a Friend and Show Them Why

If you (or your friends) don’t know what “hydro-fracking” is or you want to be more informed about the horrors of the dangerous, Halliburton-developed method of extracting natural gas from below the ground in the name of “independence from foreign oil” — GASLAND is the film to see.

At The COMMONS, 388 Atlantic Ave. Brooklyn A,C,G to Hoyt-Schermerhorn
